Class Actions

SPvG for several years has been regularly handling the defense of class action cases on behalf of its corporate and individual clients, primarily in Illinois and Missouri, but also in other, primarily, midwestern states. We also regularly represent clients in the related MDL (Multi-District Litigation) arena. We have represented numerous clients in such cases, partially because of our significant presence in the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County, Missouri, and Madison and St. Clair Counties in Illinois. This representation most frequently involves our business litigation and products liability clients in a wide variety of cases. The clients represented are most frequently in the automobile, gaming, insurance, medical device and products, and petroleum industries. The theories defended against have included contract, fraud (common law and statutory), warranty, tort, and equitable remedies. We provide vigorous representation to our clients whether we are representing a regional, national, or international client in a small circuit court in southern Illinois or a federal court in a large metropolis, whether we are serving as lead counsel or local counsel, and whether the case is receiving local, regional, or national media attention, or no media attention at all.
